COMING IN 2025!!!
1978: Baseball and America in the Disco Era pays homage to an amazing year. Americans were struggling to find their footing in the late 1970s after the Vietnam War ended with more than 50,000 deaths of American soldiers and the Watergate scandal ripped apart our trust in politicians. The year began with deadly blizzards costing nearly $600 million in damages throughout the Ohio Valley, Great Lakes region, Rust Belt, and Northeast.
One of baseball’s greatest seasons offered an outlet. An epic Yankees-Red Sox battle for the American League East pennant, Tom Seaver’s no-hitter, Gaylord Perry’s 3000th strikeout, Willie McCovey’s 500th home run, and Pete Rose’s marathon hitting streak of forty-four games excited baseball fans. Against a backdrop of disco songs, bell-bottom pants, and gas-guzzling cars, Hollywood producers answered a desperate longing for a simpler time with nostalgia-soaked offerings—Grease Animal House, Happy Days, American Hot Wax, The Buddy Holly Story, and Superman.
