YANKEE STADIUM 1923-2008: AMERICA’S FIRST MODERN BALLPARK
David joined his passions for film history and baseball in an essay published Yankee Stadium 1923-2008: America’s First Modern Ballpark, a collection from the Society for American Baseball Research.
“Silent Icons: Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Yankee Stadium” provides an in-depth analysis of Keaton and Lloyd using the storied ballpark in the films The Cameraman and Speedy. Moreover, it offers insight regarding the filmmakers’ creative, cultural, and financial impact on the film community.
Yankee Stadium was the first ballpark to include three levels of seating, accommodating more fans by far than any in the country. In its 85-year existence, it hosted more World Series (37) than any other venue and stood as a shrine to baseball generations past in one of the nation’s largest cities.
